The purpose of a DSS is to support a manager in making a decision, not to replace the manager; a DSS does not recommend a particular decision should be taken, but instead illustrates what the outcome of various different decisions might be, to allow the manager to use knowledge and experience to choose the most appropriate decision. A manager can, of course, make the wrong choice - but at least the manager has examples and what-if scenarios to assist in making that choice.
